Nia & Gloria Cruz Interview
WOMXN | NATURE Stories of Rematriation

Three generations are depicted in these two artworks I created with Nia, Gloria, and Zakai. Motherhood is a powerful aspect of womxnhood and a vital piece of this project I want to highlight and honor. I asked both Nia and Gloria about how motherhood informs their connection to nature and for caring for the planet?
"The only connection I’ve experienced in this lifetime that compares to the one I have with my child is the bond I share with my Mother. From day one, she has been there to nourish, protect, and love me. The same thing I have done for my son. Receiving so much unconditional love from my Mother has given me the foundation to provide the same thing for my child.
These relationships have reminded me of where we all come from and how the planet provides us with all we need for a healthy and happy life. In the same way that she cares for us, it’s important that we do what we can to respect, honor, and protect her. After all, she is the Mother of all living things, our home, Planet Earth." ~ Nia Cruz
"Being a mother and grandmother has made me appreciate time and change, two things that are consistent in one's life. Throughout the years, this has opened my connection up to all forms of life and has given me patience, compassion, and empathy. The illusion that time brings has encouraged me to be more present and share unconditional love with all of life's entanglement." - Gloria Cruz

Motherhood
A story of three generations and the bonds of motherhood. These pieces are about motherhood, and how being a mother or grandmother informs one's connection to the natural world. How caring for life, for family, and for one's children relates to the way the Earth Mother supports all of her children and life itself.
